Plotline
the girls are home. akari is wiping kaimei’s face off with a washrag, silent, keeping her thoughts to herself. Kaimei’s freaking out. in the middle of a hysterical spell, yelling to akari about how scared she is, she stops and has a weird look on herface. she staggers to the bathroom and vomits for FOREVER. finally, she goes silent, and akari is sitting in the same place she was when Kaimei went to the bathroom. she kind of has the mentality that Kaimei is dying, and she’s trying to accpet it. she’s basically given up hope. Kaimei goes silent for a long time, and Akari gets up to check on her, fearing the worst. as soon as Akari stands up, she starts feeling nauseous and begins her transformation, except hers is much faster than Kaimeis (the ancients had slowed Kaimei’s down so they could make it home without being seen) Akari goes to the bathroom, throws up, blah blah, passes beside Kaimei.
*End Chapter III*
*Begin Chapter IV*
The girls are approached in their dreams while they’re passed out, by Kashikoi and the other Ancients, but the only ancient that speaks is Kashikoi. he explains to them that they’re not dying, that they’ve had their ancient spirits awakened and he tells them who they used to be in their former lives, blah blah.
They wake up and spend the rest of the evening experimenting with their new abilities. They wake up the next morning, after a good nights sleep, and begin their training. learning how to enter the spiritual world through meditation, contacting the ancients with their thoughts, and combat/magic training in the spiritual world.
The girls do this every day. Work, eat, train sleep. day in, and day out. they keep the same routine they had before their transformation took place, acting like nothing changed. Denial, hardcore. Whatever time they have leftover after doing all of thos things, they spend sitting on the couch, staring into nothingness, pretending they’re not saviors of the human race. Kaimei passes off her new black eyes as sunglass – contacts, and Akari passes off her eyes as “INSERT EXCUSE HERE AKARI-CHAN”. Weeks, then months pass, as the girls train and continue about their lives. They hardly speak anymore, rarely acknowledging eachother. not out of anger, but because they don’t want to deal with their reality. they’re pretending that that Saturday night never happened.
Fall is coming to a close as the girls are beginning to excel in their training. While meditating one day after work, the girls are contacted by Kashikoi and are told that there is an enemy on the spiritual world of “insert japanese word for some scary word here”. He transports the girls to the world, and are faced with their foe. The world is bleak, and dark, and totally devoid of life. it’s all made of rock and there is no grass or dirt. kind of like the moon. their foe is made of, guess what, rock. he has control of the earth, even from very long distances, poor eyesight, and he is FREAKING HUGE.
The girls try a few elemental spells to weaken him, but they’re just reflected. they can’t get close enough to physically attack him because he’ll see them coming and hurt them. so Kaimei casts a darkness spell, and Akari casts a selective light spell, so the girls can see, but the foe cannot, and Kaimei rushes forward and beats the crap out of the thing and kills it. Akari is still standind in the place where she cast her light spell, speechless. she can’t believe that Kaimei could kill that easily. Kaimei walks back over to Akari, her eyes shining like the haven’t in months, she’s out of breath and excited, still feeling the adrenaline rush. the girls are transported back to the ancients sanctuary, where they’re received warmly. the ancients, especially Hayai, praise Kaimei. Subayai Pulls Akari aside and asks what’s wrong, because he notices that she is not joining in the celebration. she explains to him that she feels like she doesn’t know Kaimei anymore. how could she be best friends with someone who could kill withouth a thought? she thought she knew her better than that. Subayai tells her to talk to Kaimei, see what Kaimei thinks.
the girls come out of their meditation, still sitting on the floor in their apartment, and set about making dinner. Akari gets vegetables out of the refrigerator and puts them on the conter. Kaimei gets out the dishes and starts setting the table, mulling over what she should say, because Akari is obviously bothered by something. Kaimei finally just blurts out “what did I do? why are you so upset?!” and Akari wheels around, telling her that she can’t believe she could kill like that, and how could she not have told her and blah blah blah, and how she thinks that Kaimei is cold blooded. Kaimei tells her that it’s not like that at all. she’d rather not have to fight to survive, that she doesn’t want to save the planet, but when it comes to kill or be killed, she’d rather kill. she’d rather save all of the ignorant assholes on this planet than sacrifice them all. she doens’t enjoy killing, it just gives her life a higher calling, a meaningful purpose. she feels like she’s doing something good, and that makes her feel good. Akari nods after her speech is done, and she does understand. Kaimei tells Akari that she hasnt changed a bit. she’s still just as irresponsible as ever, and she’ll prove it. she goes and picks up the place settings that she laid out and puts them back in the cupbaord. she goes and sits on the couch, turns on the tv, and then yells to Akari “hey, what’re you making for dinner?” Akari smiles to herself and starts chopping the vegetables on the cutting board, feeling much better about her new life.
