Chapter IV

“Kashikoi, you waited far too long to bring the child here.” Hayai rebukes the eldest in cutting tones as he looks upon the sleeping Kaimei in the valley below. The Ancients have gathered there, awaiting the return of the Two Masters. The lake is placid and foul beneath their feet, no longer the sparkling playground of the Koi fish. The air is still, and the dragonflies that populated the valley have long since died. The sky is cloudy, as it has been for the last 25 years.

“They must understand what this is. If we simply tell them they are reincarnations, do you believe they will accept that? We have given them proof of their change, of their transformations.” Kashikoi replies confidently.

“You have given them emotional scars! This could traumatize Akari for lifetimes if not dealt with properly, and you are quite fortunate that Kaimei was strong enough to handle it! You are a disgrace and a danger to all that we have promised to protect!” Hayai counters. “I believe Subayai should initiate Akari’s transformation. We all know he will be the one to train her. Let him take charge of his pupil from the beginning.” He suggests. “Subayai, what say you?”

“If the eldest permits it.” Subayai responds, turning to face Kashikoi. “What say you, Kashikoi?”

“You have my blessing, Subayai, but let it be known to all of you that this goes against my wishes.” Kashikoi states acidly, looking at Hayai, who only looks satisfied in return.

“I will begin.” Subayai states, as he sits on his pedestal in his meditation position. As he closes his eyes, and the symbol tattooed upon his forehead begins to glow, his aura becomes visible, a swirling mass of color, and surrounds him. Spinning faster and faster, his aura begins to harden into a wall, seeming to freeze in place. When this is done, he adjusts himself, making sure he is comfortable before summoning Akari’s transformation. He looks to Kashikoi, who nods in encouragement, then begins murmering the ancient rite, calling the spirit of the Master, Akari.
